Pak To was born in Toi Shan, Canton on May 12th 1953.
In 1964, he left China along with his grandmother and younger brother to join his father and sister in Hong Kong.
During his youth he worked as a goldsmith apprentice and also worked in factories. Later on, he spent most of his working career at restaurants serving food.
In 1993, he married his wife Shirley Chen. He later moved to Boston in 1994 to live with her, where he worked at a restaurant in Chinatown.
Pak To was a very good natured man; always kind, loyal, and generous to the many people he met. He would always aid his friends whenever they needed help.
He had many good friends, especially Kenny Wong in Hong Kong, and his old boss and friend Ken from Boston. They always came to his rescue whenever he needed it.
Pak To loved all of his nephews, particularly Daniel. While their parents were away at work, Pak To would stay home to take care of all of them. When his nephews brought friends over to play, Pak To would extend his warmth and kindness, cooking a lot of food for them, and made sure they were having fun. He was always making sure everyone was having a good time.
Pak To was a very strong and brave man. In 2010, he found out he had a terminal illness: lung cancer at the 4th stage. He faced his illness along with his sister Bing Bing who came from Hong Kong to visit him. Together they went to church, and with his strong will and determination, his sister’s professional care, and God’s blessing, he survived. It was a miracle. After facing what seemed to be an impossible obstacle and passing it, he began to believe in God and started to go to church regularly.
Earlier this year (2012), the doctor gave him a new drug which was meant to keep his cancer at bay but instead his body did not react very well to it. Under the advice of his doctor, he continued to stay on the medication, but in less than 2 months he lost close to one third of his body weight. His cancer began to worsen and eventually spread to his bones. The doctor gave him the death sentence and sent him home.
Pak To was under tremendous pain constantly, but he did not give up, believing that with God and the aid of his sister, he would also get through this obstacle. He had support from the church, and his friends and family at home and from overseas. The support and love he received was overwhelming. A person to note was his Godfather, Mr. Ip, who constantly prayed for Pak To. This enormous amount of support was felt by Pak To, and moved by this overwhelming feeling of love, he began to eat and drink under the care of his sister. His general condition began to improve and he began to feel less pain.
On July 17th at noon, God had a special duty for Pak To and so summoned him from his place on Earth. Pak To passed away peacefully, with his sister and brother at his side.
