He was born and educated in Cambridge, MA. As a teenager he worked at Harvard University and MIT. He attended college at Austin Peay State College in Tennessee. After college he joined the US Navy specializing in computers, software and hardware for Air Traffic Controller systems. After having spent much of his life working in an incredibly precise field, he decided to begin art making as an exercise in working more freely. The abstract artwork he created contrasted heavily with programming life he once led. His artwork was exhibited in a gallery in Boston, MA.
His is survived by siblings, Donald McNaught of Tewksbury, MA, Robert McNaught of Merrimack, NH, Stephen McNaught of Weymouth, MA, Kathleen Patton of Bourne, MA, Jeanne Lamphier of Nashua, NH and Sandra Occhino of Belmont, MA. He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul McNaught and Thomas McNaught.
A Burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday November 4, 2025.
