Anne Jane Bankston

Anne Jane Bankston, age 84, passed away peacefully at her home on January 20, 2026. Born June 25, 1941, Anne was a lifelong Cape Cod resident. Her parents, Stewart and Ernestine Deware, raised her and her (late) younger brother also named Stewart, in Yarmouth, MA. Her father had a pet store on the east end of Main Street in Hyannis where across the street she would meet her future husband the (late) Donald Bankston whose parents had an art studio.

Anne attended the New England Conservatory in Boston for music. She and Donald were married March 4th, 1961 in Barnstable, MA. They settled in a home in Hyannis where they welcomed first a daughter, Kelly, followed by 3 boys, Donald, James ‘Jimmy’ and Jonathan.

Anne was an avid reader and lover of movies. She amassed quite the collection of both. Anne had an uncanny ability to find ‘bottle dumps’ in the woods uncovering troves of beautiful collectibles which donned her windowsills and bookcase shelves. She loved to feed the wildlife. At her home in Sandwich she would have flocks of turkeys on her backyard that would knock at the door with their beaks if she took too long to go outside with their treats. Bunnies were the happy recipients of baby carrots in the front yard of her condo in Pocasset while opossum, mallard ducks, squirrels and various birds would feast on seed on her back deck.

Anne is survived by her daughter, Kelly Cravero and son, Jonathan Bankston and his wife, Heather. Kelly’s children James, Sarah and Jessica, their partners and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jonathan and Heather’s children Karissa Bankston, Grace Ouellet and Jonathan Bankston, their partners and grandchild

A visitation will be held at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, located at 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA 02532, on January 27, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The funeral service will take place at St. John's Episcopal Church,159 Main St, Sandwich, MA 02563 on January 28, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

Burial will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne, MA 02542, from 11:15 am to 11:30 am on January 28, 2026.
