He was the son of the late Harold and Doris (Tillson) Howe of Biddeford, ME. He was born in Biddeford in 1934 and attended schools in both Biddeford, ME and Jaffery, N.H., graduating from Thornton Academy in Biddeford in 1952. He continued his education at the University of Maine, Portland campus and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1964.
He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany and the Army Reserves in Maine, receiving an honorable discharge in 1962. He started his career at Yellow Motors, a division of GMAC in Portland, ME and later transferred to GMAC offices in Boston, Quincy and Brockton, MA where he retired in 1992 after 28 years of service.
He enjoyed many years of living on Sebago Lake, Maine with his loving family and dear friends. He and his wife Lena also spent many cold winters in Florida with friends before moving to Cape Cod in 2012.
Arnie enjoyed singing whether it was in choral groups, church choirs or just sing a-longs with friends. He loved to play tennis and enjoyed riding in his pontoon boat on Sebago Lake.
He is survived by his wife Lena of 40 years, a daughter, Kristin Howe of Springvale, ME, step-children Barbara Rudnicki and her husband John of West Bridgewater, MA, Alan Vaughan of Pocasset, MA and Susan Simmons of Bourne, MA, grandchildren, Kevin and Jeffrey Rudnicki, Michael and Christopher Simmons, Lindsey Gauthier, Sable and Carina Ryan, a great-grandson, Liam Young, as well as a sister, Alice True of Springvale, ME.
His Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne. Visitation 11 – 12 p.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation 1359 Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018.
