After a long and courageous battle with mental health challenges, their pain became unbearable on Wednesday, April 23rd. They were the husband of Courtney Cunat Spencer, of Clearwater, FL, to whom shared the last twelve years together; and the dedicated father of Percival Spencer.
They grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and spent summers on Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard at their grandmother's home.
Colin bonded with Percival through bike riding, hiking, and attending tractor and train exhibitions and tinkering with machines.
Colin, passionate about aviation, dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring this year with over 3500 flight hours on the C130H airframe. Their aviation journey began as a teen volunteering at the New England Air Museum in Connecticut. Deployed, Colin embraced adventure, connecting with diverse cultures. Known for compassion and empathy, they enjoyed life outdoors, especially kayaking on Moosehead Lake in Maine and long motorcycle trips, such as from Salt Lake City to Deadhorse, Alaska. Colin's hobbies included woodworking, volunteering as a host at Bluegrass KMXT Radio in Kodiak, Alaska, playing their favorite music, and learning new instruments.
Colin is also survived by their father Terry and step mother Julie Spencer; their mother, Michelle Spencer; their twin sister, Martha Spencer and their sister, Mallory Spencer; all of Connecticut. Colin is preceded by their father-in-law, Dennis Cunat in 2018.
Colin will be missed by so many other family and friends.
An inurnment ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 7th at 12:45 pm in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne.
