

Dale Andrew Burtyk, born on August 27, 1956, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026 in Leesburg, Virginia, at the age of 69. Dale will be remembered as a teacher, mentor, loyal friend, and selfless individual who touched the lives of many around him.
Dale was born on August 27, 1956 to Andrew Burtyk and Dolores Burtyk in Bourne, Massachusetts. After graduating from Bourne High School, he attended the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut earning a bachelor’s degree.
After graduation, Dale chose to forge his own path and entered the United States Army in October 1978. He graduated from Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia in 1979 and was commissioned an Army second lieutenant, kicking off a decorated 30-year career of service to his country with the military police. Dale continued his service to his country through his long tenured work with the United States Government and IRS. Spending time in South Korea, Germany and Iraq.
Dale married Denise Doyle, going on to have two children, Alisha and Justin.
After retiring from the United States Army in 2009, and retiring from the IRS in 2024, Dale spent his time as a dedicated, Washington Capitals fan. He enjoyed travel, food and a good wine.
Dale is predeceased by his father Andrew Burtyk and mother Dolores Burtyk. He is survived by his sister Diane Dickson of Bourne, Massachusetts, his two children Alisha Burtyk of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Justin Burtyk of Virginia Beach, Virginia and his nephews Keith Dickson and Shane Dickson.
Dale will be laid to rest at Massachusetts National Cemetery on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:15 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Wounded Warriors Project in support of wounded, ill and injured service members and their families.
