Dina Beth DuCoffe-Perrone, teacher, social worker, artist, cat lover, and dedicated Nana, passed away peacefully in her home after breakfast with her grandson on April 15th, 2022, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Dina was born and raised in New York City, and attended Hofstra University’s Experimental College, majoring in art and philosophy. She was a social worker in NYC until she moved to West Virginia. There she was a founding member of the Martinsburg Women’s Shelter and continued as a social worker until the birth of her son, Eli. She completed her Masters in Special Education at West Virginia University in 1992 and taught special education in Virginia and West Virginia until her retirement. Her dedication to education led her to achieve National Board certification in 2004, and afterwards she helped develop a mentorship program for colleagues working toward their certifications. She was a lover of art and filled her home with distinctive pieces in an eclectic style.
Dina began pursuing an Educational Doctorate in Administrative Leadership at Shenandoah University in 2009, but was diagnosed with breast cancer during her second semester. She continued teaching and mentoring during treatment and the 5 years of remission that followed. Unfortunately, she was rediagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2015 and retired from teaching. She moved to Plymouth in 2016 in order to be closer to her son. She joined the Redbrook community and was very active in a variety of local groups and organizations. She was blessed with a grandson in 2021 and he was the absolute joy of her last nine months. Her family and friends will greatly miss her.
There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, May 14th at the Redbrook Barn. Visit the funeral home’s website at the link below for more details and to share memories and photos. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dina’s name to the South Shore Community Action Council, your local women’s shelter, or cancer research hospital.
