Donald Jacobs

Donald Jacobs passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. He was 93 years old. Donald was born on September 25, 1919 in Bourne, MA to Fred and Almira (Hamblen) Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly (Lynch) Jacobs formerly of Brockton. Also surviving are his two daughters; Sharon Murphy and Christina Coffey, and his much loved granddaughters; Caitlin Murphy, and Hannah Coffey.

He served his country with honor during WW II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the South Pacific area. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked for more than 30 years for Stephen A. Days Insurance Company and later for Johnson Insurance Company until his retirement.

He was active in the community serving as a charter member and past commander of Aptucxet VFW Post #5988, past chairman of the Bourne Planning Board, past commander of the Buzzards Bay Power and Sail Squadron, and a former member of the Shore and Harbor Committee. He was a passionate historian taking great pride in the history of Bourne and was a current member of the Bourne Historic Preservation Society and past Secretary Treasurer and life member of the Bourne Historical Society. He was also an avid member of the Cape Cod Postcard Collectors Club.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at the end of calling hours at 7:00 PM. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Bourne Historical Society, P.O. Box 3095, Bourne, MA 02532-0795 or the Bourne Fire and Rescue, 130 Main St., Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
