

James Bernard Fitzsimmons, age 72, passed away peacefully on March 21st, 2022 at his home in Sagamore Beach, MA. He was the beloved husband of Donna Rae (DeBari) Fitzsimmons for 37 years. Born in Middletown, CT he was the son of the late Bernard and Helen (Corley) Fitzsimmons. A native of Portland, CT, he was a Radiation Protection Supervisor at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth for 27 years before retiring in 2013. He served in Vietnam with the Alpha Company 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry 199th Light Infantry Brigade. He was a loyal member of the Always Alpha Group and he and Donna enjoyed many reunions with his Vet buddies across the U.S. He was a member of the VFW Post 5988 in Bourne and also frequented the Cape Cod Vet Center in Hyannis, MA. An avid sports fan, he coached his children’s youth sports teams and also enjoyed golf, fishing and travel.
In addition he leaves his children: Cecilia Miksch and her husband Josh of Andover, MA, Patrick Fitzsimmons and his wife Coleen of Plymouth, and Hannah Hunt and her husband Jeremy of Plymouth. He was the beloved brother of Roy Fitzsimmons (Karen) of Fort Pierce, FL, Nancy Brown (Pete) of East Hampton, CT, Judy Hedges (Arthur) of Portland, CT, Russell Fitzsimmons (Darlene) of Henderson, NV, and Larry Fitzsimmons (Sheila) of Colchester, CT. He was the cherished Grampy to Isabelle and Olivia Miksch and loved by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Nickerson - Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA on April 1st at 10:30 am. Services begin at 11:30 am followed by interment with full military honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
