

John was born in Brockton, he was the son of the late John B. and Anne C. (Shorthall) Geilear, growing up and graduating from Brockton High School Class of 1943. As a member of the greatest generation of Americans, John answered the call of duty to serve in World War II. He served in the Army Air Corps 20th Division. One of his proudest accomplishments was flying the B-29 Superfortress aircraft. After his Honorable service to his country, he began working for Firestone Tire and Rubber. He rose through the company becoming New England Regional Manager in Heavy Truck, Earth-Moving, and Aircraft tires. During this time he met the love of his life Dorothy as she was the bookkeeper for Firestone. They were wed in 1955 and have been together since. John continued his work once Firestone diversified and began working as the Eastern US Division Manager for Seiberling Tires. After his retirement he began working for Peter Fuller as a General Manager for New England Automotive Distributors.
John was a humble man who loved the beach, weekly dinners out with his wife, nightly cribbage games, and loved to travel. Every year he and Dorothy would travel somewhere new together. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Dorothy E. (Hagan) Geiler, their son Michael Geiler and his wife Kathleen of Buzzards Bay, daughter Kathleen (Geiler) Sarkisian of Bourne, son John “Jay” Geiler of Bourne, and son James “Jimmy” Geiler of Florida. “Papa” to his grandchildren Ashley, Allison, Kaylee, Jared, Jordan and Jackleen. Great-Grandfather to Jemma and Aria. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. John was preceeded in death by his late sister Anne (Geilear) Peavey, late brother Frank Geilear, and late son Steven F. Geiler.
Private arrangements were held by the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne and burial with Military Honors were held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
