
John was born July 18, 1927 in Cambridge, MA. He was the son of John and Helen Silva of
6 Richards Way, East Sandwich, MA both of whom have passed.
John enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1946 and proudly served his country for 42 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Army Reserves in April of 1987.
John is survived by his only sister, Lorraine Jacobs of East Sandwich, MA, as well as his nieces and nephews: Linda Hedly of Auburn, MA, Theresa Adams of Sandwich, MA ,Thomas Jacobs of Kingston, MA, and Diane Leonard of Pelham, NH.
Upon his retirement from the service, he spent many years living in Florida where he had a landscaping company. He was self-taught and was always readying books about history. He travelled the world and spent many hours showing his family the pictures he took of his travels. He was very proud of his military service and was never seen without his ball cap that proudly stated “ Retired Vet”.
John will be buried at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on February 22nd at 11:00 am. A military funeral will take place to honor him for his many years of military service. He will be missed by his family very much.
