March 20, 1961 - December 14, 2022
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny, age 61, of Bourne on December 14, 2022.
John was born on March 20th, 1961 and grew up in Buzzards Bay. He was the beloved son of Maria M. Cubellis and the late Guido J Cubellis. He loved his large extended family.
Johnny attended the Upper Cape Regional Vocational Technical School in Bourne, where he learned the automotive and truck repair business, attended Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland, Ohio and applied his skills at General Dynamics in Quonset Point, RI constructing Trident and 688 Fast Attack nuclear submarines.
John went on to be the founder and owner of Cubellis Auto & Towing located in Buzzards Bay, where he built a large base of locals and friends who relied on him to keep them running, often letting his customers know not to worry about the cost, it was nothing! Johnny liked to ride fast dirt bikes and fast cars, often causing local officials to ask, “where do you think he went?” when not having breakfast at his brother’s, Leo’s in Buzzards Bay, John liked to spend time in Onset, where he breakfasted, held court and talked about life with his good friend Stevie Baptiste.
John is survived by his mother, Maria, of Buzzards Bay, sister Linda of Monument Beach, brother Len and wife Ginny of Scituate, brother Anthony and wife Joanie of Buzzards Bay and sister Jamie and husband Scott also of Buzzards Bay. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Crystal and Catherine Cubellis and grandsons Jaydon, Chandler and Christian along with a long list of nieces and nephews. Johnny will be missed by us all.
Visiting hours are on Wednesday, December 21, from 4PM to 7 PM at the Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Boulevard, Bourne, MA. Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December 22, at 10 AM at Saint Margaret’s Church, 141 Main Street, Buzzards Bay. Burial following service at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery located on Tihonet Street, in Wareham.
Although Johnny accomplished so much, in his later years he suffered from substance use disorder that slowly took over his life. Those who knew him and love him remember the Johnny of his young years who was quiet, caring, always willing to help someone who needed a hand getting their car going or a quick repair and giving them a caring “don’t worry about it smile”. John cared deeply for his mother Maria, living his last years with her, sharing her faith in Jesus and making certain that everything was in the right place for her at home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parents Supporting Parents. P.O. Box 992 Monument Beach, MA 02553-0992. (https.//parentsfightingaddiction.org), helping those afflicted by Substance Use Disorder.
