Kareno was the daughter of a dedicated, doting, and loving career Air Force father and a magical dedicated doting mother who survived the WWII bombings in her home town in Great Brittan. Born in New England, raised in many areas, she was always drawn back to New England and lived here her last 16 years. She was a high school track star in Bourne MA, and a graduate of Brigewater State College with a teaching degree.
So proud of her country following the examples of her father, her uncle and her brother, she enlisted and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. She met and married her husband, John, 29 years ago while stationed in Hawaii. Together they proudly served out his naval career in Japan and many parts of the U.S. until he retired in 2006.
Kareno worked as a graphic artist for the Navy’s Morale Welfare and Recreation department creating many eye catching logos, taught art to young and old, and worked for several newspapers before settling in Windsor Maine where she worked as an artist for the local paper, The Town Line. Around 2002 she started a small animal rescue on her own which in 2014 with the help of her great and caring friends Wendy Wells, Julia Chernak and Debbie Phair, they developed into (the Maine state recognized 501(c) non-profit ) Animal Rescue of Kennebec (ARK). Kareno gave and gave until she should give no more. Perhaps in some small way through ARK we can help her spirit live on.
Kareno was predeceased by her mother Brenda Areno in 2006. She is survived by her father Rocco Areno, Buzzards Bay MA, her aunts Mary Craig, Framingham MA and Angelina Garcia, Fairfield CT, brother Michael, Mechanicsville MD, sister Joanne Brandrup, brother in-law Marc Brandrup, Bourne MA, nephew Mattthew, FL, husband John Stansbury, friends at the Windsor ME dinner, the Town Line, and the city of Hollowell Maine, her adopted home. She would have liked us to special thanks to Mrs Montagnea who helped Kareno develop her tremendous art skills from childhood through college, and to her oncologist Dr. Trudy Chase and the staff at Parkview hospital whose magic kept her going as long as they could. Kareno is greatly missed by all.
