She graduated from North Hills High School in Pittsburgh, PA., attended Pennsylvania State University, then subsequently attended and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1982. She had just retired in September after working for many years at the Bourne Public Library.
She is survived by her husband William of Monument Beach, MA, her two sons Alan of New Bedford, MA and Erik of Somerville, MA, as well as her mother, Mary McLaughlin of Buzzards Bay, MA. Also surviving are her sister Eileen and husband Jeffrey Mulhall of Garden City, NY, her brothers Kevin and his wife Kim of Fairhaven, MA, Dennis and his wife Jeanine of Mattapoisett MA, Paul and his wife Flavia of Boston, MA, and Michael of Westerly, RI, as well as 19 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Gerald, and sister-in-law, Nuala.
She was an avid reader and a voracious learner. She was endlessly curious and constantly sought to expand her knowledge and understanding of the world. She had a deep love for history, medicine, and nature.
She will be remembered for her creativity. She enjoyed scrapbooking and was especially talented with paper crafts. Kathleen made beautifully intricate cards, and regularly sent them to family members and friends just to say hello.
Her love for her family was unbounded. She always put her children's needs in front of her own and would go to any length to help them and make them feel loved, and never asked for anything in return. She was the center of communications for many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and was the unofficial historian of her large extended family, tracing family genealogy and documenting family memories. She was instrumental in supporting her mother Mary after the passing of Gerald, working tirelessly to keep in contact and spend time with her over the years. Her tenderness and caring nature will never be forgotten.
