Kevin was born at Tobey Hospital, spent his childhood in Bourne and graduated from Bourne High School in 1977. The friends he made in Bourne are lifelong friends, friends he had until his final day.
The day he graduated, he moved to Mashpee as he wanted to immerse himself in his Tribal Family. He found Mashpee to be vital to his life and spirit.
Kevin enjoyed working. From his pre-teen years, cleaning and stocking at the Hotel Bar; working at the Bourne Community Center at age thirteen; and, eventually working with his father, Elton Tobey, Sr., learning the craft of masonry. Kevin was arguably one of the best masons on Cape Cod. Kevin also enjoyed hunting and an occasional game of Scrabble. But he particularly enjoyed a game of pool and left many competitors dejected and scratching their heads.
But, mostly, to sum up his life, in the words of so many: “Kevin Tobey was a good guy.”
Kevin leaves to remember him, his son Aaron Tobey of Brockton; his siblings Yvonne Tobey, of Bourne; Robyn Tobey Stamps, of Falmouth; Jennifer Tobey of California; Carrie Tobey of Massachusetts; Sheri Schaefer of Arizona, Joe (Tobey) Schaefer of California and Bill Schaefer of Massachusetts.
In addition, he leaves his pride and joy, his grandson Aavan Tobey; beloved God-child Domminque Domino, and several nieces and nephews. Kevin also leaves behind his life-long love Kathy Hass and her daughter, Jessica Fromm.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents Elton and Valerie Tobey.
A memorial service will be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from noon to 3:00 PM with a repast beginning at 4:00 PM at the Mashpee Wampanoag Government/Community Center. Aho!
