

She was born in Jonesville, VA to Maud Catron and Mack Henry Snodgrass Dec. 18,
1922.
After graduating from Flatwoods High School she attended Milligan College for two
years. She taught in a one-room school for a year before going to Emory and Henry
College for a degree.
Maxine spent a few months at the Omaha, NB YWCA where she had the experience of
teaching ballroom dancing at Boys Town. Father Flanagan wanted his boys to be
socially adept when they were drafted into the army.
She worked at the YWCA in Knoxville, Tenn. which allowed her to take graduate classes
and where she met her husband Dr. Arthur P. Morris. They married in 1949 and went to
the University of Illinois where he took a degree and she had a baby.
They lived in several states ending up in Massachusetts where Maxine retired from the
Raynham school system.
After her retirement she and her husband spent time rock hunting, gardening, counting
birds and almost rebuilding the house.
Arthur preceded her in death May 14, 2006.
Maxine is survived by her sister Billie Pfitzer of Atlanta, GA; her step-sister Velda
Fannon of Pennington Gap, VA; her daughter and son-in-law Sue and Harold Lowe of
South Bend, IN.; one granddaughter, Sara Lowe of South Bend, IN; two grandsons and
their wives, Kevin and Leticia Lowe of Elkhart, IN. and Steve and Michele Lowe of
South Bend, IN; and 9 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at noon Jan. 10 at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne. A
memorial service for Maxine and Arthur will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 10 at Nickerson-Bourne
Funeral Home.
Her ashes will be interred at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
