Paul Joseph MacCormack of Orleans passed away Tuesday November 8, 2011 at Cape Cod Hospital. Paul, a resident of Orleans, is survived by his devoted wife and loving and companion of 21 years, Kathleen.
Paul was born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts, where he lived for more than 60 years. As a young man Paul graduated from Boston English High School and attended Northeastern University. After a few semesters at school, Paul felt the need to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marines Corp. A proud Marine, who left the Corp with a rank of Master Sargent, Paul carried his Marine credentials in his wallet until the day he died.
Upon returning from the service, Paul married his first wife, Margaret Joyce (1930 – 1971) of South Boston. Together they had six children, Paul (married to Nancy) of Randolph, Massachusetts, Elaine (married to Michael) of Tucson Arizona, Frederick (married o Emiko) of Camden Delaware, Mark (married to Doreen) of Charlestown, Massachusetts, William (married to Michelle) of Weymouth Massachusetts and Michael of Braintree, Massachusetts. Paul, a strong family man, who loved his children and their spouses, was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren; Amy Meghan, Nathan, Jennifer, Jillian, Katey, Liam, Luke, Ian and Margaret and two great grandchildren, Elijah and Rachael
Paul worked for more than 35 years for the New England Telephone Company (later Lucent Tech.) For a good number of those years, he was in charge of all phone systems for the Gillette headquarters, where he was highly regarded and proud to be on a first name basis with every from the president to the newest person just starting in the manufacturing plant. Gillette was also the place where Paul met his second wife, Rita of South Boston, who passed in 1989.
Paul also loved people, and besides his extended and loving family, he will be fondly remembered by his many friends throughout the country. Paul had a natural and unassuming way to make a new acquaintance feel like an old friend. Paul loved the holidays, a party and any excuse to see people he cared about. He was a former member of the South Boston Yacht Club and a current member of the Cape Cod Men’s Club. He will be sorely missed, but affectionately remembered, by all who new him.
A private ceremony will be held at the National Cemetery in Bourne and a tribute Mass will be held, to include extended family and friends, at future date.
