He is preceded by his wife Betty (Elizabeth Hardinger), and he is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Oakley, Melanie Dunn, and Daryll Perry, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ray grew up in a house right across from the Cape Cod canal, in Bourne. He saw the Bourne Bridge being built which spanned the canal connecting the upper Cape with the lower Cape and Islands. In his teenage years he loved to dance and would attend the weekly dances held nearby.
Ray served in the Korean War earning the Purple Heart for saving a friend's life.
He worked for many years at Howard Johnson’s restaurants located all over the Cape. He met many of his close friends and even his wife Betty by working for Ho Jo’s. He had a wonderful, fun and witty personality and was known as the life of the party.
In his later years he left Howard Johnson’s to work for the Mellon family on the Cape where he developed close friendships and loved going to work each day. He was there for many years until retirement.
Late in life he took a painting class with Betty and surprised everyone by being able to paint beautiful pictures. He always liked crafts and even learned to knit.
Dear Ray will be greatly missed.
