Richard ("Rick") Dowd passed away peacefully in West Roxbury early on the morning of Thursday, December 14th. He was born in Brockton on September 29, 1955, the youngest of 8 children born to James H. Dowd, a native of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and Agnes M. Neidel of Boston.
Richard grew up in Dorchester and graduated from South Boston High School, class of `73. He was a U.S. Army veteran and proud to serve. He loved writing poetry, loved music, was quite creative, had a great sense of humor and a very good heart.
He is survived by his sons Adam of Kensington, NH and Jason of Plymouth, daughters Amanda of Hydesville, CA and Sarah Randall of Carver. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Olivia Mann, Bryson Randall, and Nikola Bere. He is also survived by his siblings Jim Dowd of Clearwater, FL, Daniel Dowd of Marion, MA, Dolores Kindel of Seneca, SC, Agnes Rutkowski of Jupiter, FL, and Michelle Golden of Seneca, SC.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Jon and Frank Dowd, and brother-in-law Ron Kindel. Services will be held at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne on January 2nd from 10 am to noon with a brief ceremony at the Massachusetts National Cemetery (Bourne) afterwards.
