Susanne J. Arnold (Jason), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, died peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of ninety-six. Born to the late Edward Jason and Theresa (Neal) Jason on January 30, 1929, in the Bronx, NY, she was known for her sharp wit, exceptional memory, intuitive mind, love of gourmet foods, and fine dining.
Growing up during the Great Depression in the Bronx, NY with her parents and 2 brothers Paul and Ronald, Susanne survived the many challenges that came her way. She attended Catholic school throughout elementary and high school and completed two years of business school with an associate’s degree. She was fond of music and had a beautiful singing voice. Eventually, she left NY and went out west to San Francisco, CA with her friend Cathy. She had a lovely garden apartment that was within walking distance of her job at Manpower. While on a double date with her friend, Susanne met the love of her life, Benjamin Arnold, and had a wonderful courtship. They came back East and were married in New York City where their reception was a Polynesian breakfast at Trader Vics attended by family and close friends.
Susanne moved with her husband to Stamford, CT, where they had 2 children. In 1976, they moved to Sagamore Beach, Cape Cod, MA. During that time, Susanne became involved in and lead groups like The Red Hat Society, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), and KOPS (Keep off Pounds Sensibly). She got her Certified Nursing Assistant’s certificate and was able to care for and nurture those patients with daily living activities on Cape Cod. Susanne was a fan of fashion and somewhere along the way decided to try her hand in modeling. Never one to shy away from the spotlight, she attended and graduated from the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School. The highlight of her senior modeling career was when she did a runway show at the then, Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis, MA.
Susanne loved to entertain. Gatherings at the “cottage” in Sagamore Beach on the 4th of July were her one of her favorites. No sooner would one meal be finished, she would be setting up for the next complete with fine China, sterling silver flatware, crystal glasses, and cloth napkins with individual napkin rings. Her rationale was “I’m not waiting for the queen of England to arrive, so might as well use them now!” Thanksgiving and Christmas were also her favorite times of the year to be with her family. A couple of her favorite recipes were creamed onions, broccoli casserole, green beans almondine all served on ornate platters.
Susanne is survived by her son, Roger C. Arnold and his wife Laurie of Glastonbury, CT, her daughter Elizabeth A. Rubio of Maynard, MA. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Arnold and his wife Veronica of Glastonbury, CT, Griffin Arnold and his wife Lucy Lawlor of Alexandria, VA, Emma Rubio of Charlotte, NC, Sofia Rubio of Maynard, MA, and her adorable great-granddaughter Josephine Arnold of Glastonbury, CT. Along with many of her nieces and nephews from NY, NJ, and PA.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Benjamin Arnold; her brother Paul Jason; her brother Ronald Jason; her nieces Margaret Jason and Deanne (Jason) Dunne; and several beloved family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, MA. A memorial service to honor Susanne's life will be held at Swift Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 10 Williston Rd, Bourne, MA, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The burial will be private.
