Val was an Eagle Scout, and spent 4 years in the US Navy where he studied Avionics and flew P-3's. He earned Master's Degrees in Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and at Florida Institute of Technology.
Val worked 25 years on the Joint Stars project at Northrop-Grumman Company in Melbourne, Florida. He loved English Springer Spaniels, playing guitar, singing classical music and English Country Dancing.
Val is survived by his wife of 53 years Donna McFarland, his son Julian Vonheeder, and daughter-in-law Terri Moore of Bourne.
