

Born in Plymouth, Ma on May 19,1927 to the late William and Florence MacDonald. Bill spent much of his youth growing up in Plymouth, where he graduated from the Plymouth School System with his younger sister, Brenda Lavin, who always looked up to her big brother, as both a mentor and role model.
Bill graduated from Boston University, and went on to receive a Doctorate Degree in Education. He also served his country as a veteran of the US Coast Guard, where he developed his love for boats and the ocean, which he enjoyed with his family and friends for his entire adult life.
Bill was a legend in the world of Education, as he left his mark on thousands of children, and many teachers who served and learned under his guidance. He started his career as a teacher and coach in the Weymouth School System, before being elevated to the position of Assistant Superintendent, a position he later held in the Marshfield Public Schools. Bill later took over the Superintendent of School position, in both Bethel, Ct. and Winchester, Ma., before his retirement in 1983. His passion for teaching continued as he became the Dean of Education at Lesley College for the next twelve years, where he taught teachers and administrators the finer pointsof the Education industry.
Known as Bill to his many friends, he will be remembered for his many stories, his unbending ethics, staunch opinions, and his desire to never quit, traits that he passed on to his children, reminding them that you always keep score for a reason. He kept score in life, amassing many more victories than defeats, while accumulating many friends and acquaintances along his path.
Bill was an athlete in high school, excelling on the football, basketball, and baseball teams, and later coached football and basketball in Weymouth, Ma. Public Schools. He actively followed his home teams, especially The Boston Red Sox and Patriots, where he had the opportunity to befriend his boyhood heroes Johnny Pesky and Ted Williams.
Bill was recognized by the Mass Teachers Association, and Mass Association of Superintendents for his valuable contributions to his communities, where he stood tall as a town "pillar", as grateful citizens ,students, and teachers honored him for his contributions and leadership.
Bill was predeceased by his beloved bride Barbara( Kelley ) MacDonald, who passed away after thirty four wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret MacDonald, who shared eighteen years of marriage, measured with all the love and caring any spouse could share in a lifetime, allowing Bill to winter in his retirement home of Sun City, Florida. She has been his special angel, caring for him as his health declined in recent months.
Bill is survived and will be deeply missed by his daughters Lynda Perry, of North Andover, Ma. ( her Husband Al), and Jeanne Taylor of North Canaan, Ct. ( her husband David); sons Timothy MacDonald of Portsmouth, NH.( his wife Donna) and Michael MacDonald of Plymouth, Ma. (his wife Gina). He is also survived by his son Ralph Gogliormella of Buzzards Bay, Ma. and daughter Angelina Gogliormella of Salem, Ma., who both enjoyed spending time with Bill in his Buzzard's Bay home. sister Brenda Lavin of Worcester, Ma. grandchildren Greg Taylor, Chandra Ring, Nathan Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Darryl Perry, Bryan Perry, Kristyn Perry, Marc Perry, Allyson Baker, Anthony Perry, Tia Perry, Stephen MacDonald, Matthew MacDonald, Kelley MacDonald, Kaitlyn MacDonald, and Caroline MacDonald: 15 great grand children, nephew Chris Lavin ( his Godson), and niece Jill Samia, as well as many friends.
Bill was predeceased by his special granddaughter Hannah Taylor, who brought a smile to all that knew her in a life cut short.
Friends may call at the NICKERSON-BOURNE FUNERAL HOME, 40 MacArthur Blvd, Bourne, Ma. 02532, from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, September 16, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret's Church, 141 Main Street in Buzzard's Bay on Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be private on Tuesday.
