William Rodman Prophett

William Rodman Prophett, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday March 4, 2016 at The Royal Megansett Nursing Home in North Falmouth, Massachusetts. He was born on February 24, 1935 in Brockton, Massachusetts to William Carpenter and Eleanor Mae (Rodman) Prophett.

Rod grew up in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and graduated from Bridgewater High School, Class of 1952. After high school he joined the Coast Guard and for seven years traveled the world. When he returned home he went to work, spending many years in the heavy equipment business. Most recently he worked in the fish wholesale business he founded, Dawson Seafood Company of Bourne, Massachusetts. Wherever he was Rod was never idle.

In 1967 Rod married Bonnie Laura (Blais) Prophett. They were happily married for 48 years.

An avid golfer and Yankees fan, mostly for the reaction he got growing up in Red Sox nation, he enjoyed watching sports, fishing, boating and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents William Carpenter Prophett and Eleanor Rodman Prophett; and his youngest brother, Stephen H Prophett. He is survived by his siblings Cynthia Wallis of Corpus Christi, Texas, Judith P. Timken (Bill) of Lafayette, California and his brother Phillip, of Newport, Rhode Island.

Rod is survived by his wife Bonnie of Bourne, MA; his daughters Elizabeth Rutherford (Tim) of Chestnut Hill, MA; and Laureen (Neil McGillivray) Prophett of Truro, MA and Laura O'Connell of Durham, NH; his sons William of Falmouth, MA, and Robert (Cathleen) of Bourne, MA. Rod was the proud grandfather and step-grandfather to 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Rod was also beloved by nieces and nephews near and far. He was a free spirit with a heart of gold. For those who loved him most he leaves a void, too big to ever be filled.

A celebration of Rod’s life will be held later this spring. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Fidelis Hospice, 25 Railroad Square, Haverhill, Massachusetts 01832.
