Elsie was a devoted wife, mother, and retiree from the Department of Commerce in Washington, DC. She grew up on her parents’ dairy farm in Greenville which started her love of family and animals. Elsie moved DC in 1967 and met her future husband, John Joseph Carroll Jr. They married in 1968 and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February of 2024.
John and Elsie moved briefly back to Pennsylvania. They had a son, Daniel Carroll, in Greenville, PA. In 1971, the three of them moved to Maryland. John joined Sheehy Ford in Marlow Heights, MD, as an outside sales parts representative. Elsie returned to her government position. Her office helped companies establish international trade relationships between United States and foreign countries. She enjoyed her work and coworkers where she stayed in the government for over forty-four years.
Elsie loved her church, her neighbors, and her neighborhood in Bowie. She enjoyed church chat-n-chews, spending time with her friends and relatives, and vacationing in Pennsylvania and Myrtle Beach. She would ride horses, play with friends’ pets, smile at children, look for bargains, and walk around the block.
Elsie loved being with John as he would tell stories and jokes, making everyone laugh with his humor. He drove Camaro sports cars, rode Harley Davidson motorcycles, and drank Coca Cola daily. He was an avid TV channel chaser and listened to the police and fire emergency radio channels. John passed away in July 2024.
Elsie was proud of her son, Daniel, her daughter-in-law, Sarah, and her granddaughter, Tori.
She is survived by son Daniel Carroll and daughter-in-law Sarah Carroll of Bethesda, MD; and granddaughter Tori Carroll of New York City, NY.
A celebration of life will be held for Elsie at 11 a.m., Friday, February 7th, at the United Parish of Bowie.
