Mrs. Gayle Kim Jenkins Law departed this life on June 17, 2016 at the Bowie Health Center in Bowie, MD after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on October 2, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York to Gloria Jenkins and the late Kenneth H. Jenkins.
Gayle and her family lived in the Cypress Hills housing projects in Brooklyn until she was about 11 years old. At that time, the family moved to Hempstead, New York where she continued her education in the Hempstead Public School System. Gayle was an excellent student. In fact, she graduated from Hempstead High School a year ahead of her class. She then attended the State University College at Buffalo, New York under the early admission program from 1973-1976. She then transferred to Virginia State College (now University) in Petersburg, VA where she completed her higher education graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Professionally, Gayle was an Information Technology professional. She spent 36 years working in this profession with such companies as Control Data, Planning Research Corporation, the City of Alexandria (VA), and the Government of Arlington (VA) County. The bulk of her professional work was done in Arlington County. She retired from Arlington County in September 2015 after receiving here diagnosis.
Gayle was a member of the Virginia State University Alumni Association and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Gayle was always gracious to her friends, family, and coworkers. She enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, and shopping. She was always known to strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger. During better times with her Arlington County coworkers, the big question of the day was "Where are we going for lunch?", as they always had a great time on their lunch dates.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 32 years Thomas F. Law, two daughters Alyson K. George (DeMarkus) and Alana K. Law, her mother Gloria Jenkins, her brother Guy K. Jenkins (Michelle), two grandsons Markus and Gavin George who brought great joy to her life, two nieces Krystal R. Jenkins (Jerry) and Jasmine Jenkins, one nephew Derek Besenius, one uncle, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Gayle will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. All of us loved her, but God loved her best.
