Passed peacefully at home in Bowie Maryland shortly after midnight on October 8, 2017. Family
and friends gathered throughout the day and she was aware of everyone who came to hold her
hand, say a prayer or tell a story at her bedside. There was laughter, tears and most
importantly, much love surrounding her.
Born in Watertown, MA on Valentine’s day 1930, Katsie is preceded in death by her loving
husband, William Linwood Hoyle III (Bill), her brothers Paul R. Francis (Mickey) of Uxbridge, MA,
Edward R. Francis (Eddie) of Upton, MA and her parents, Paul and Hazel (McGrath) Francis of
Watertown, MA. She is survived by her 4 children, Katherine R. Hoyle (Kit), William L. (Linette)
Hoyle IV (Woody), Paul F. (Laura) Hoyle and Terri M. (Jason) Allmon, by friends Phyllis and John
Grabowski, who she considered the closest of family, and by her sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews
and cousins. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren – Katie, Matt, Andrew, Tim, Tyler,
Amanda, Jason, Makaylyn, Reed, and Rhett; and her great-grandchildren – Paige, Carter, and
Noah. All will remember her as fiercely loving and a steadfast rock of strength, no matter what
the circumstances.
Growing up during the depression, Katsie learned to appreciate the little things in life and
cherished her many friendships. She was a lifetime volunteer – whether it was to join the Navy
as a civilian after WWII serving in Japan for 2 years during their restoration; giving blood to the
American Red Cross; to be exceptionally active in her children’s PTA, Boy Scouts & sports
teams; her beloved Catholic Church, Meals on Wheels, The American Cancer Society, Coastal
Hospice, and so much more. After her own experience with cancer in 1993/1994, Katsie and
Bill started to volunteer for the Road to Recovery program for Worcester County, MD, driving
cancer patients to treatments. After Bill’s death from lung cancer in 1998, Katsie became the
county Director for the program. She found strength in her grief and was forever positive and
strong with a sharp wit and always a story to tell.
Katsie and Bill met in September of 1959 and married the following June when they made their
home on Cape Cod, MA. Their marriage was filled with happiness and strength as they
maneuvered life’s many ups and downs together. After moving to Maryland a few years later,
she made a career of helping people as a Realtor in Prince Georges County Maryland and
Washington D.C. Upon retirement in 1993, they moved from Oxon Hill Maryland to Ocean Pines
Maryland.
Her friends will remember her as funny, deeply caring and always active. Katsie was a member
of many social groups in Ocean Pines Maryland where she lived for over 20 years. An avid card
player, she enjoyed her Canasta and Pinochle friends, as well as all her “Swimmin’ Women” at
the pool, the many plays, retreats and events she attended with friends locally. These friends
kept her busy, laughing and engaged.
Friends, family and guests may pay their respects on Thursday, October 12, 2017, 4-8pm, at
