Born on January 9, 1926, in Manchester, New Hampshire, to Arthur Depeleteau and Rose Racette Depeleteau, Lorraine was raised with her four brothers, whom she dearly loved. Following her marriage, she lived a life of service and travel through military assignments, which brought her to locations around the world, including Thailand, where her daughter, Denise, was born in April 1965.
Lorraine made her home in Bowie, Maryland, settling into a newly built community where she formed lasting friendships with neighbors who became like family. There, she devoted herself to raising her daughter, Denise, as a dedicated stay-at-home (single) mother. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, where she generously gave her time as a religious education teacher and volunteered at the “House on the Hill,” providing groceries, clothing, and furniture to families in need in the 1970s. She went on to dedicate over 20 years of service to the Prince George’s County Library System.
Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played an active role in helping Denise raise her children, offering constant love, guidance, and support. When Denise married Dan, Lorraine’s family grew, and she warmly embraced three additional grandchildren as her own. She was further blessed with eight great-grandchildren, with whom she treasured time spent playing games, singing songs, decorating cookies, celebrating birthdays and holidays, and creating precious memories in her later years. She found deep comfort in her family, whose love and support lifted her spirit during life’s hardest moments. Her family finds comfort knowing that Lorraine is in heaven with other beloved family members gone before her. She is finally warm.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise, and her husband, Dan; her grandchildren, Johnny and his wife, Molly; Valerie; Chris and his wife, Ashlee; and Sam and her husband, Bryce; as well as Dan’s children, Brian and his wife, Mel; Kevin; and Dana and her wife, Lavonne. She is also survived by her cherished great-grandchildren: Charlie, Johnny, Sloan, Eli, Bella, Cohen, Noa, and Cora.
The family would like to share our gratitude to the remarkable caregivers Linda A., Linda J. and the staff of Caring Companions Nursing LLC, whose support will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
