

He was enlisted in the U.S. Army and reached the rank of E4. He later attended and earned in 1963, his Bachelor’s in Political Science, from the University of Maryland. Mike worked for the Smithsonian Institute until his retirement from the Federal Government, where he reached the rank of Director of Plant Services.
Mike was a very active, longtime member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Bowie, MD. When he moved to Florida, he was the head of his Chapter of FLiCRA (Florida Live in Care Residents Association.) Mike worked coordinating for the Orleans High School, where he coordinated reunions here in the USA, for high school students who attended school in Germany and France.
He enjoyed playing softball, taking trips to Ocean City as well as spending time with his large family.
Mike is survived by his children; David W. League (Terry) of Sanford, FL., and Laurene “Renee” Cooper (Harris) of Seaford, DE., his sister Dottie Cecil of Clawson, MI, his 6 Grandchildren: Brian, Christopher, Karen, Samantha, Victoria, and Kristina. He is also survived by his 14 great-grandchildren, as well as his sisters-in-law; Joyce Cantrell of Cary, NC and Linda Malloy of Bowie, MD, and his brother-in-law; Robert Thomas of Huntington, MD.
Mike was married to Kay Thomas League on June 9, 1963, and they were married for 53 years, until her passing in 2016.
Mike is survived by his 2nd wife JoEllen League.

A Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie MD 20715 on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 11:00 AM until Noon, where services will begin at noon.
Mike will be interred at the Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD following his services.
