Cmdr. Robert B. (Bob) Crotty, USN Ret. (age 99) of Goldsboro, Maryland, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 after a short illness surrounded by his children. Bob was the beloved husband of Dorothy L. Crotty for 56 years. Born May 28, 1924 in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of Arnold and Eulalia Crotty and brother to Anna Gray Branyon and Arnold Eugene Crotty. Bob attended Cornell University and the University of Virginia leading into his proud service in the Pacific in World War II and the Korean War.
Bob spent many afternoons watching University of Maryland sports and was passionate about supporting US veterans in achieving higher education. Bob lived his life to the fullest every day, setting the example of hard work and a generous, forgiving heart.
He will be remembered for his quiet confidence, unconditional love and never-ending devotion to his wife, Dotty. Bob is survived by his five children, Martha Baker (Allan), Mark, Kevin (Susan), Keith (Christy), and Kent (Juergen); five grandchildren (Kelly Dixon (Ronnie), Bobby Crotty, Claire Vallowe (Shawn), Keith Wayne Crotty, Jr., Sean Crotty (Bernadette)); nine great-grandchildren (Kendall Dixon, Kamryn Dixon, Isabella Crotty, Elliana Crotty, Connor Crotty, Noah Vallowe, Owen Vallowe, Ethan Crotty, Edward Crotty); and one great-great-grandchild (Melanie Willen). He will be missed every day.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, March 9, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
Roberts funeral service will follow the Viewing on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM, at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home.
His graveside service will occur Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:15 AM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery - Cheltenham, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
