Bill was born on January 30, 1953, in Washington D.C. to the late Elizabeth Regina Burch and Wilfred Oquist Hansen Sr.
Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy, daughter Erika and son-in-law Ken, daughter Rachel and son-in-law Darren, granddaughters Madeline and Grace, and great granddaughter Iris. He is also survived by his siblings, Joan, Christine and Steven and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was larger than life, not just because he stood at 6’5, but because his heart was even larger than his stature. A lover of all things Maryland as anyone could see from his numerous tattoos. Bill enjoyed fishing, crabbing, reading, history, and the occasional pull of the slot machine. He was very proud of his extensive genealogy research.
And you can’t mention the Washinton Redskins, the Baltimore Orioles, or the Washington Capitals without thinking of Bill. Many hours were spent at the ballparks, hockey rinks, and in front of the television cheering on his favorite teams. And yes, the cheering may have involved a bit of yelling and cursing from time to time.
He was probably the happiest and most content on the beaches of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Countless trips to Nags Head and Hatteras found Bill sitting under a canvas umbrella and playing in the waves with his family.
Bill was exceptionally proud to work at the international office of the IBEW until his retirement. Specifically, he was the ringleader of the famous and fun 2nd floor crew.
The family of Bill wishes to extend their sincere thanks to his entire medical team at Johns Hopkins.
