Larry was born in Bowie, MD to August John and Dorothy Merkel on August 15, 1964. He went to Bowie High School and worked for PEPCO for thirty years where he would have retired this year. Larry lived in Bowie, MD for most of his life surrounded by friends and family. Larry enjoyed watching the Redskins and NASCAR, being outdoors, and contributing his free time to “working” and socializing at the American Legion Post 66.
Larry was an outgoing, hardworking, and loving father, grandfather (Poppop), brother, and friend and will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. Larry was immeasurably loved by all five of his children.
He is survived by his siblings Johnny Merkel (Cathy), Donna Kreitzer, and Carol Merkel; his five children Jordan Merkel, Devan Connor (Sean), Morgan Merkel, Kierstan Merkel, and Jason Merkel; and his two granddaughters Riley Disney and Elsie Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents August John and Dorothy Merkel and his siblings Margaret Wiggins and Edward Merkel.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2:00pm at the American Legion Post 66 in Bowie, MD located at 9605 Old Laurel Bowie Road, Bowie, MD 20720.
