

Passed away on February 25, 2017. He was 90 years old and preceded in death by wives, Jeanne A. and Esther Vaughan, and longtime companion, Jane Chick. Survived by sons, Rock (Michelle), Dale, and Michael Vaughan; sister, Donna Eskins; and granddaughters, Nicole, Kendall, Morgan and Katherine Vaughan.
Bumps was raised in Colmar Manor and is a graduate of Bladensburg Senior High School. After serving his country during WWII, he returned home and continued his education by earning degrees from the University of Maryland and George Washington University.
Son of Vance and Eula Vaughan, Bumps excelled in sports and turned that into a life long passion. He was a teacher and coach in the Prince George’s County school system (Glenridge JHS, Bowie SHS) throughout his career. After retiring from teaching, he went on to coach baseball at the U.S. Naval Academy and Prince George’s County Community College.
Services will be held on Friday, March 3rd at Robert Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland. A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
A private burial will take place on Saturday, March 4th.
