Born in Durrbach, Romania on March 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Maria (Thellmann) and Johann Foisel Sr.
As a recently emigrated teen from Austria, Maria was a dancer in a Schuhplattler group at the Reading Liederkranz. She describes in a diary that she met a nice young man, Wayne Beekman, when he fixed her flat tire, 40 years before they were to reunite and marry. After settling in Kutztown, she became a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Kutztown, PA, and retired from Kutztown University where she was a custodian. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, especially for her family. Maria was adored by her grandchildren, known by all as "Oma." Maria was an ardent Phillies fan, watching in the stands and at home on tv.
Maria is survived by her children, Randy husband of Tracey Moyer of Shillington, Heidi wife of Rodney Mease of Kutztown, and Denise wife of Todd Schnaufer of Topton. Step-children, Valerie wife of Jack Sassaman of Boyertown, Rhonda wife of Kevin Ochs of Mohnton, and Calvin J. husband of Michele Beekman of Boyertown. 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren survive her. She is predeceased by her brothers, Johann Foisel, Martin Foisel, and Mike Foisel.
A funeral service will be held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home in Boyertown, PA on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 11 am. A viewing will be held prior at the funeral home from 10 am to 11 am. Burial will follow the service at Hill Church Cemetery in Boyertown, PA.
