Every now and then someone comes into your life and elevates you, opens doors and providing support. Russ was that person, he gave me opportunities that have projected my career, my self development and my life. He was boss, a friend and a champion of people and I take that with me everywhere now. I will be forever grateful. 

What a character, how I wish I could chat to enjoy his responses hear his gruff responses.

I first met Russ at GSK where we both worked with Allen Oliff on an oncology asset.  He was instrumental in helping me understand how to navigate the corporate waters.  I remember one particular situation where I had written an email that I didn't realize could have been misconstrued.  Russ called me up after I sent it and recommended that I not send that sort of information in an email.  I really didn't understand why it was inappropriate and I asked Russ to explain--which he did.  To this day, I remember that lesson every time I write an email that could be sensitive.  And I give Russ credit for keeping me from really screwing up!   

Really enjoyed meeting Russ both in PA and during his visits to Ireland, a quiet unassuming man, happy to go with the flow. Sorry to hear of his passing, may he rest in peace,

Russ was my friend & mentor at GSK. He frequently reminded me to 'never hold my head down to anyone', and 'go outside of my comfort zone' to push boundaries in my work. He also talked frequently about how proud he was of his children, and how in love he was with his fiancee. I'll miss our talks, and his encouragement, but will continue to pass his words on to others who need them, as well. Rest easy, Russ.

I was so sorry to hear of Russ' illness and his passing. He was such a talented scientist and project manager, and an all around good person. His skills, his sense of humor and his always positive attitude will be very missed at GSK. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Russ will always be an integral part of my memories at GSK, and I will truly miss him.  I worked with Russ in a couple of different areas over our years together, and he was always a great colleague and a great friend.  His dry sense of humor and unmistakable voice made it impossible to not want to be in a room or on a team with Russ.  He was always focused on being the best he could be at work, but he could so easily be distracted to talk about his kids and his adventures with them outside of the office.  Rest in peace Russ, and condolences to all his family.

Russ was a valued colleague at GSK - a man of integrity, solid technical knowledge with down to earth experience and a great sense of humor. I certainly learnt a lot from him and he was always pragmatic and understood drug discovery at GSK very well. He will be missed by us all. I had the pleasure and honor to work with Russ for several years here at GSK, and boy how much fun we had during that time, including during some rather stressful times! He has been a great colleague, a very thoughtful and considerate team leader, and, what I most appreciated about him - there was no wishy-washy with him, one always knew where he stood on various issues!   I consider myself lucky to have known Russ, and I pray that he now rests in peace.  My deepest condolences to the family.

Attached is a picture I snapped while we were in London with a number of people from GSK, and decided to brave the cool wet streets for a sip at a local pub. There was buzzing all around the pub as oncology colleagues were excited to see each other. As I grabbed this photo, there sat Russ in the eye of the swirl, looking at me with a knowing smile. He was happy as a clam, he loved his work and the people he worked with. I've been missing Russ and his 'John Wayne' style voice since he started his treatment and journey, but I think of him with fondness and warmth. I'm very sorry that he was taken so early but I am really glad to have known him. 

Just a short note about unique Russ.  When we interviewed him for our unit, my then manager came out of the interview beaming and said we have found the best guy.  How right he was.  Russ was a calm, measured and oh so knowledgeable colleague.  He talked straight, was kind and was always there to talk to.  I have so many happy memories of him at our last gathering at the Xmas party.  His crazy tie and always a smile.  It is such a shock to hear he has left this party so young.  I send the biggest hugs to all his children and his family - your dad, your partner, your son, your uncle, your brother was one of life's best - I am proud to have known him - sleep well Russ xxxxx 

I’d really like to extend my condolences to Emilie, Katelyn and Hunter. I was heartbroken when I heard the news, and I may have never had the chance to meet you all, but Russ was my mentor and manager for several years at GSK and he talked about you all greatly.

I, like many, am a better person for having met your father and his support and leadership elevated me as a person, and despite moving back to Australia we stayed in touch.

I will miss him, but be sure to know he made a difference to many. 




My sincere condolences to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Russ for a few years on a program at GSK.  I always enjoyed his wry sense of humor and admired his dedication to his colleagues and to the programs on which he worked.  He never failed to bring a smile to my face, even when the going was tough.  He was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.

While I never had the pleasure of working on a team with Russ to deliver an asset, I remember meeting him for the first time. He and I were assigned to a team volunteering at a GSK Orange Day several years ago. We spent a day working side by side and I remember his sense of humor and his obvious passion for giving back to his community. I'll miss passing greetings in the halls at GSK. My sincere condolences to the family, Russ will be missed. 

My thoughts and prayers with Russ's family and friends. May his soul rest in peace. I hadn't had the privilege to work directly with Russ but I am certain his legacy will live on as thousands of patients will benefit from his work. He will be dearly missed.

I will always remember Russ as one of the best project leaders I have worked with in my career.  He was passionate about people and so was always someone you could go to for advice.  You will be missed Russ and you will remain in my prayers.  Rest in peace.

Russ was a great guy who had a passion for developing drugs for patients who needed them. He possessed great leadership skills and it was an honor to have worked with him closely and to have learned from him. My sincerest condolences to his family. Russ will be sorely missed.

I worked with Russ, though not as much as many.  He was always professional, helpful and a real pleasure to work with.  My heart goes out to his family and friends dealing with his loss.  Margaret 

I remember when he caught a 14 pound Northern Pike while he was casting for brown trout on Lake Leelanau.  It was the biggest one I ever saw!
