

James Charles Leitten, 83, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. Born on March 18, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, James lived a life marked by dedication to his profession, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the outdoors.
James began his academic journey at Canisius College in Buffalo, graduating in 1963. He continued his education at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dentistry. After earning his dental degree in 1967, James pursued advanced training in orthodontics and graduated from the school’s orthodontic program in 1972. His commitment to excellence in dentistry left a lasting impact on those he served throughout his career.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and family life, James found joy in several hobbies. He was an avid photographer who beautifully captured wildlife, portraits and landscapes. As a skilled woodworker, James crafted unique and special pieces for his family. He also enjoyed the sport of skeet shooting and teaching these skills to his family.
James shared a loving marriage with Elaine Leitten for 59 years. Together they raised three children: Scott (Andrea), Christopher, and Lisa. James took great pride in his role as a grandparent to Christopher and Alexandra Leitten, cherishing the time spent with them. James was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth B. and Helen M. Leitten, as well as his sister Kay B. Sharp.
A Funeral Mass will be held on May 23, 2025, 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church 12905 SR 70 E, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.
