Our beloved mother, Jane Ann (Elliott) Lane, passed away on Friday September 22, 2023 at the age of 79. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her; she was cherished and will be missed terribly. She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Dr. Walter Lane, and is survived by her sister Sallie Elliott, her daughter Michelle (Maas) Crawford, son Eliot Andrew Maas, and stepdaughters Pamela Lane, Melissa (Lane) Lamb, and Stacie (Lane) Wheelis, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild – with another on the way. Her especially-loved nephews and their families in Indiana, as well as her nieces and nephews across the state of Florida join us in remembering her.
Jane had a long, full life. She was born in Ohio and eventually moved to Florida where she graduated from Largo High School. More than anything, she was known for her drive to help others in the Tampa/ St. Pete area. She was voted President of the League to Aid Retarded Children (LARC) in the 70s, founded a thrift store for Northside Christian High School that raised millions of dollars in the 80s, was the driving force for fundraising at the Psychiatry Center at USF, volunteered at the Tampa Urban League, and was a dedicated leader and party-goer with the Tampa Krewe of Venus.
As a woman who loved the outdoors, she could often be found around John’s Pass windsurfing and soaking up the sun. She loved to travel the world with her partner in adventure, “Little Walter.” Together they visited India, Thailand, England, Poland, Easter Island, and more, traveling by cruise ship, dog sled, glass top train, and tuk-tuk. To our mother, life was nothing short of an adventure.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center in Lakewood Ranch, FL. All are welcome to attend.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rtslwr.com for the Lane family.
