Maria Ann Rizzi, of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, passed into eternal rest on May 15, 2025, at the age of 82, after a courageous and grace-filled ten-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by her devoted family, Maria left this world just as she lived in it with deep faith, quiet strength, and an abiding love that will echo for generations. She was the heart of her family, a cherished friend to many, and a radiant example of compassion and perseverance.
Born on September 10, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, Maria was the beloved daughter of the late Rosario and Pauline (Licciard) Macca. From a young age, she radiated energy, resilience, and purpose. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Brooklyn College, where she laid the groundwork for a life driven by movement, mentorship, and meaningful connection.
Maria was a lifelong athlete with an indomitable spirit and a natural gift for coaching. She spent many years inspiring young athletes on the basketball and softball fields, instilling not only skill but also confidence and character. Even into her 50s, she laced up her cleats to compete in the Monroe Women’s Softball League, showing that passion has no age limit. Off the field, she could always be found cheering from the bleachers whether at a son’s baseball game, a daughter’s softball match, or a grandchild’s championship. Her voice was the loudest, her applause the most heartfelt.
Her Catholic faith was the bedrock of her life. A devout parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, NY, Maria lived her faith not only in prayer, but in action. She embodied humility, service, and grace, and her spiritual devotion guided her words, her deeds, and her enduring love for others. She was a quiet force of goodness in the lives of all who knew her.
Professionally, Maria was a creative and dedicated entrepreneur. She co-owned Monroe Printing with her sister-in-law, Anita, for over four decades. Her clients knew her not just for her impeccable work ethic and design sense, but for her warmth, patience, and integrity. Many customers became dear friends drawn in by her sincerity, and held by her loyalty.
But it was within her home and family that Maria shined the brightest. She was the rock, the nurturer, the counselor, and the cheerleader. Her marriage to Richard Rizzi was a true partnership built on love, respect, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised five children whose lives reflect the values she lived every day: Christopher & wife Marie Rizzi, Anthony Rizzi, James & wife Erin Rizzi, Virginia Gilkes, and Stephanie Rizzi.
Maria’s grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her face would light up at the mention of their names: Marissa, Christina, Samantha, AJ, Abrianna, Nicholas, Olivia, Noelle, Taylor, Jayden, and Augie, step-grandchildren Meagan and Sean. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she never missed a chance to celebrate their accomplishments, big or small.
Maria is also survived by her loving brother, Custode “Sonny” Macca, and countless extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Annette Cannizzarro, whose memory she held close to her heart.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Maria’s life will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 12905 SR 70 E., Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.
Though she is no longer physically with us, Maria’s love continues to surround those she held dear. Her legacy lives on in every kind word spoken, every act of quiet strength, and every life she touched. She was a woman of unwavering faith, fierce devotion, and endless generosity and she will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
In lieu of flowers, family request Mass Cards.
