

Mary Vassiliades Myers, 100, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 2024 at her residence in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Mary was born on 15 September 1923 in the Bronx, New York to Olga and James Metaxas. Mary had two brothers and one sister. On 18 August 1946 she married the love of her life, Michael John Myers who preceded her in death on 19 March 2001. Mary traveled the world with her husband the next 26 years in the US Army raising their 5 children.
Mary is survived by her five children – Kenneth (wife Magdalena) of Cantonment, Florida, Cynthia (husband Daniel) of Neptune Beach, Florida, Michael (wife Jean) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, James (wife Mary) of Lakewood Ranch, Florida and Christine (husband James) of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Six grandchildren – Karoline, Cori, Dannon, James, Mary, Kathryn and six great grandchildren – Gabriella, Isabelle, Taylor, Dane, Chloe and Sophie.
Mary was a dedicated wife, homemaker and mother first. Mary treasured her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Mary loved her role as Grandma and Great Grandma.
Mary had a vivacious personality, entertaining and always making people around her laugh while making friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed decades of bowling on the Fort Belvoir Virginia “OWC” Bowling League. She cherished her teammates and participating in bowling championships. One of the sweetest and kindest women to everyone around her.
Mary was marked by her extraordinary GREEK heritage and was passionate about her Greek culinary experience, known by all for her wonderful Baklava, Spanakopita, Koulouria and her signature Leg of Lamb and so many more Greek dishes. She passed on her cooking skills to her daughters and daughter in law. Mary was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
A funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Robert Toale & Sons Celebration of Life Center, 4310 Solutions Lane, Bradenton, FL 34211. Mary will be laid to rest at the Arlington Virginia National Cemetery on a date TBD next to her husband Michael John Myers, LTCOL, US Army.
