My condolences to Philip, Nicole, and Francesca. I am so sorry for the loss of your wonderful father.
I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Ricardo, Joan, and Granny for the love and care they bestowed on my late mom, Marjorie Sumner. She truly felt like part of the Nascimento family and often spoke about how much your support meant to her as she was establishing herself here in Canada.

Ricardo and I have had a very long and lasting friendship from 1959 when we both worked for Barclays Bank in Guyana. My wife, Jean, entered that bound of lasting friendship in 1967 when she became the private nurse of Ricardo's dad during his illness. Over these many years we have enjoyed and cherished the friendship and love of Ricardo (and Joan). His respect and thoughtfulness for others will always be remembered.

I met Ricardo and Joan and all their family through my late husband, Michael. He and Ricardo had worked together for Barclay's Bank in Guyana and stayed in touch after immigrating to Canada. Such was the dynamic of the Nascimento family that Michael and I were made to feel a part of that welcoming clan. When Ricardo and Joan purchased their house in Brampton, they invited us to come and see the area. We eventually purchased our first home on the same street.  We were welcomed to parties and weddings; we were "Uncle" and "Aunty"; we travelled with Joan and Ricardo and Nicole to Expo 86 in Vancouver.  All in all, a friendship that can never be forgotten.
Ricardo was a true gentleman and a good friend.  His humour, steadfastness  and fine manners will be missed.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.

My deepest condolences to the entire family!  I feel very grateful to have met Ricardo through my bestie Simone, who spoke so highly of her uncle.  His kindness and love for his family has  left a lasting impression.  May he rest in peace!!

I have such fond memories of my Grandad and Granny Joan taking care of me. I lived with them from the ages of 2 to 13, and when I was little, I was known as his "backpocket" because I followed him everywhere he even taught me my ABCs while he shaved in the morning before leaving for work. I can still remember sleeping on the pull-out couch in their bedroom, listening to the epic snoring battles between the two of them.
Growing up, they brought me along on long drives to vacation in Florida or Myrtle Beach, listening to The Tradewinds and other Calypso songs, communicating back and forth on walkie-talkies with Uncle Ken, and eating cheese paste sandwiches. I also remember the countless visits to friends and family, where they’d bring me along to their card games, letting me enjoy the snacks and keep the leftover dimes and quarters.
If I had to choose one thing that defined my grandfather, it was his ability to care for others. It started when he was a young man in Guyana. After his father died he stepped up in his role for the family and his siblings. When he and Granny Joan made the courageous choice to move to Canada, he ensured his mother came with them, caring for her while raising his own three kids.
As he got older, looking after his mother became his full-time job. Every day, he’d put on his hat and jacket and drive up the "Brampton Indy" Highway 410 to Tall Pines. Not long after Gran Gran passed; my granny Joan got sick, he restarted the routine without hesitation. The hat. The jacket. But this time, he added a thermos full of Dutch Chocolate ice cream. 
He and Granny Joan were my biggest supporters when it came to education, and they were the ones who really encouraged me to pursue my Master’s degree. They believed in me even when I wasn't sure of myself, and knowing I made them proud is something I will cherish forever. 
Watching the love and relationship they shared taught me so much about life. I am the person I am today because of their love and support

With my deepest sympathy & condolences to Philip, Nicole, Francesca and families. I have known Ricardo & Joan since my working days in Guyana from 1961 and regarded them not only as colleagues but as also close friends. This friendship continued in Ontario and apart from being in contact by phone, I enjoyed seeing them both at the regular Barclays luncheons organized by other colleagues. There was nothing negative I ever experienced with them & honored them as very good friends and companions. I'm sure this sentiment is shared by many (if not all) of their colleagues and friends.
Ricardo is another friend that I lose and this is life but he is now with his dear wife . We're here today and gone tomorrow. I look forward to seeing them in the life to come and am comforted by the words of Jesus, our Lord, who said "The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (John 11:25,26).
Here's to our good friend Ricardo. I'll always be thankful for the friendship I found in you  (& Joan).

A Memory for My Brother Ricardo

There are people who pass through our lives quietly, and then there are those who leave a mark so deep it becomes part of who we are. My brother was the second kind. He carried a light that showed up in a hundred small ways—his laugh, his stubbornness, his loyalty, the way he could turn an ordinary moment into something worth remembering.

He was a wonderful and supporting uncle to my children, always ready with a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand. His love for them was gentle and unwavering, and they cherished every moment spent with him.

When I think of him now, I don’t just remember the big milestones. I remember the everyday things: the conversations that went longer than they should have, the jokes that only we understood, the way he showed up even when life was heavy. He taught me what it means to stand by someone, what it means to love without conditions.

Losing him has carved out a space in my life that will never be filled, but the love he gave me and my children stays. It shows up in the choices I make, the strength I try to carry, and the way I look after the people I care about. His story didn’t end—because it lives in me, in my kids, and in everyone he touched.

Today, I honor him not with sadness alone, but with gratitude. Gratitude for the years we had, the lessons he left behind, and the bond that even death can’t undo. My brother may be gone from this world, but he is not gone from our lives. He lives on in every memory, every smile, and every gentle moment.

May he rest in peace, forever embraced by the love he gave and the love that surrounds him.

Dear Nicole, Philip, and Francesca,

Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. I have so many fond memories of times spent with your family as a child and I will always remember Uncle Ricardo’s sharp wit, bold laugh, and joyful spirit. My parents truly cherished and appreciated the lifelong friendship they shared with your parents and thought of them as family. 

Please take comfort in knowing that Uncle Ricardo is now reunited with Auntie Joan, watching over you all with love and pride. May God bless you all and bring you strength and peace during this difficult time.

It's been an honor being his daughter. My father was absolutely loved, respected and touched everyone's hearts with his presence.  He had the most caring and generous soul ever. He is at peace now dancing his Fred Astaire moves with my mom Joanie in the clouds, He finally gets to see his mother & father, his two brothers, and his best friend...uncle Ken.
