Mabel May Vokey was born May 4, 1932 on Bell Island Newfoundland. She is predeceased by her parents Louise and Walter Vokey. She was the oldest child of twelve and predeceased by all except one.
She married William Rees (deceased) in February, 1949 and had four children, May (deceased), Rhoda Louise, Billy (deceased) and Gordon.
Mabel became a grandmother in December 1972 to Jennifer, followed by Paula, Carrie, Ashley and William, and was then known to all as Nanny. She went on to be blessed with 9 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She loved all of her grandchildren more than life itself, and doted on them at every opportunity, especially Christmas.
She became a member of St. Joseph of Nazareth Anglican Church in 1995 and was a devout member until her passing. She was a member of the Alter Guild for many years, and trained new recruits on how things were to be done. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society in Brampton. She always looked forward to her breakfast and lunch outings with the Red Hatters, as well as day trips to different locations.
Mabel also loved to travel. The highlight was in 2008 when she traveled to Israel, which she always referred to as the Holy Land. Mabel told many stories of this trip and her adventures, which included riding a camel at 76 years old.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Mabel’s best friend of 40+ years, Margaret-Ann along with honorary daughter Crystal.
