Mary passed away peacefully with family at her side, after a brief illness, at her residence in Mississauga. She was 92.
Our Mother was one of a kind. After growing up in Chipman, NB, she married and journeyed across much of Canada and Europe as wife of a husband serving in the Armed Forces. This spirit for adventure was the seed for many stories she would share with us throughout our lives. But at heart, despite her travels abroad, she remained a small town girl. She was most comfortable at home with family and pets at her side. She was spoiled dearly by our Father and I’m sure would attest her longevity to the good care Dad provided, a daily glass of wine and piece of cheese. She was born with the “gift of gab” and a very unique sense of humour that she no doubt passed on to her kids. These two qualities allowed her to make friends with complete strangers in almost any situation. If left alone in a crowded mall she would always come back with a lengthy story with detailed history of someone she had just met, and talk as if they had been friends their entire lives and I’m sure they felt that way having met her if only for that brief moment. Reading the paper, front to back, daily, and listening to CBC Radio around the clock became her pastime in later years. Enjoying the quiet company of her pets, Bear and Brat in their home in Brampton. Friends near and far, were always a phone call away.
No service will be held for her here in Mississauga but there will be a graveside service in NB at a later date when Mom and Dad are finally laid to rest.
