

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Moira Lumley. (Brampton, Ontario) Moira died after a brief illness on November 22, 2024 in her 95th year at Brampton Civic Hospital.
Moira grew up in Whitley Bay in England. She joined the Woman’s Land Army and was stationed in Singapore. She moved to Australia after her military service, marrying Allan who she had previously known in Whitley Bay. They emigrated to Canada eventually moving to Brampton.
Moira was an avid reader her entire life, reading a book every 2.5 days. Moira volunteered for numerous charities over the years such as UNICEF, Heart & Stroke, the Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross to name a few. She received her 30+ year service award for the Canadian Red Cross in 2006 and 45 years in 2013.
Moira was also involved in community theatre in Brampton becoming a founding member of Peel Panto Players, Bramalea Little Theatre and Brampton Musical Theatre. She was involved in all aspects from directing, producing, acting, stage management and set design. Moira was on the ACT-CO board twice, education chair in the 1977/1978 season and as Gala Chair in the 1979/1980 season. She received the following awards;
Brampton Civic Award for Community Theatre – 1983
ACT-CO award for producing Amadus; Best Production - 1991
Brampton “Arts Person of the Year” – 1991
Les Carbot Award of Distinction from the Government of Canada for contributions to community cultural activities – 1991
Bronze Award from the Brampton Arts Council as a “Friend of the Arts” - 2004
Bloom Award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in Set and / or Furnishings – 2007
Brampton Musical Theatre – Lifetime Achievement Award for 50 years of service – 2013
City of Brampton – 50 years of service - 2017
She was predeceased by: her parents and husband Alan Lumley. She is survived by: her children, Shaun, Wendy and Holly; her siblings, Patricia Nairne (Dallas) and Wendy Herdman (Robert); and her cousin Elizabeth Mather. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews in Australia, Canada and England.
