Robert is survived by his dear wife, Jean Maxwell (nee Reilly). He is predeceased by his brothers, John, Jim, and Charles, and his dear sweet eldest son, Andrew Maxwell.
Loving father to Andrew, John, Jim, Elaine (Greg), and Michelle (Jordan). Dear Grandpa to Moira, Luke, Samuel, James, Andrew, Charlie, William, Martin, and Claire. He will be fondly remembered as Uncle Robbie by his nephews & nieces, and as Bob to friends.
Robert was born on April 14, 1936, in Clydebank, Scotland to the late John and Bridget Maxwell. The youngest of all boys growing up in a hardscrabble shipbuilding town during WW2, young Robbie’s resilience and courage was solidified from a young age. Fleeing the Clydebank Blitz of 1941 with his family, he spent a large portion of his sixth year, along with several treasured summers, in the family’s Moylehill, County Donegal farmhouse in Ireland. As a young man, his national military service took him on a voyage to see the likes of Sri Lanka, Singapore, Japan, South Africa, and Korea.
He married his bride, Jean Reilly, in 1964, and the couple and their children immigrated to Bramalea, Ontario, Canada in 1974. Robert found his home in the St. John Fisher Parish adult choir, where he quickly rose to the rank of Choir Master. He was an organist and singer for numerous weddings and funerals in the community, and also a singer at St. Anthony’s Parish and Peel Manor. Robert proudly worked security for Kodak, Ontario Hydro, and, eventually, Ontario Power Generation, until the early 2000s. During his limited down time, he traveled to Ireland, Australia, North Carolina, and, on multiple occasions, back home to Scotland.
He was a loyal supporter of Celtic FC and devoted member of the Bramalea Celtic Club. He proudly celebrated 60 years of marriage with his wife and true love, Jean, in 2024. A force to be reckoned with, he was witty, sharp, and opinionated. However, his true joy lay in the time spent celebrating at family events and sing-alongs with his wife, children, and grandchildren by his side. Today we’ll raise a glass and have a wee dram in your honour. Safe home now.
The family invites relatives and friends to share their memories of Robert during visitation, held at the Andrews Community Funeral Centre on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 6pm-8pm. Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 10:30am, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church.
