

Holman, Shirley Elizabeth (nee McCarthy) legally Shirley Elizabeth (everyday Betty) born on February 12, 1943 at Toronto Western Hospital, passed away surrounded by her family on October 5, 2023 from bladder cancer in Brampton, Ontario. Mother of Norman Holman (June Leard), Wayne Holman (Deceased), Matthew Holman (Deceased), Douglas Holman (Susan Palmers), Dean Holman (Janet) and Patrick Holman (Penny Henry).
Sister of Mary Lee Weishar (Frank), John McCarthy (Elizabeth), Katherine McCarthy Donovan (Deceased), Pat Kemp (Mark).
Grandmother to nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, eleven nieces and nephews, and seventeen great nieces and nephews.
Close family friends, Oriel Wayner, Kelly Priebe, Ann Stoner, Donald Donovan, Robert Donovan, Sheila Maas, Norma and Garnet Miller, The Mackenzie Family and the McGarvey Family, James Cartier, John Gunville and numerous friends and coworkers in Florida.
Shirley worked at Patricks Department Store in Galt from 1957 to 1958, She then went to work for Bell Canada as an Operator from 1959 to 1961 until dial was introduced. Followed by working at the Silk Mill for six months, and Country Chef as a carhop 1966 -1967 and worked at Parkview Manor.
In 1965 she moved to the farm with her husband in Sullivan Township and bought a general store with a butcher shop in 1972. January 1, 1977, Shirley and her sons moved to Owen Sound working multiple jobs to feed her children. She worked at many 7-11's, she cleaned a trailer, and got her Health Care Aide and secured employment at Owen Sound Nursing Home from 1978 to 1993. In 1982 Shirley purchased a home in Balacava, Ontario and moved with her sons.
In 1993 Shirley moved to Dunedin, Florida and secured a position as a Patient Care Technician/Unit Secretary at Morton Plant Rehab Centre. She also did private duty for Bernie and MaryAnn Powell and Helen Sclep on weekends. Shirley retired November 4, 2019.
Shirley travelled all over the world, with her sister and family and took many, many photos. She also crocheted over 500 afghans for friends and families.
Funeral to be held October 21, 2023 at Maplewood Cemetery, 242998 Maplewood Road Conc 1,West Grey Township, Grey County, Ontario (Between Varney and Holstein) at 1:00P.M. Reception to follow at Chesley Community Centre, 129 4th Ave SE, Chesley, ON N0G 1L0 from 2:00P.M. to 4:00P.M.
