We think young.  We think we're young.  We are what we are, young, old, here and gone, all at once.

Susan, I was very sad to learn of Atul's untimely passing.  But lately, i have come to know that death is an illusion.  The new physics teaches us that our thoughts, our prayers, our very souls are made of particulate matter, existing in multiple unperceived dimensions of space/time, independent of the transient flesh.

So when you think of your beloved Atul, consider that your thoughts of him are not yours.  That's Atul in your thoughts.  When you hear him in your mind's ear and see him in your mind's eye, that's him, not you.  When you remember the things he says, that's him too, and especially when you think that you know what he would have said in some circumstance, that's him too.  And if you can deal with this, you'll be able to enjoy him still, and in new and sometimes even better ways.

Hope you don't think poorly of me to bust in on your family this way.  I just wanted to say that we all chose beautiful paths in life, and when you told me you loved Atul and wanted to make a life with him, I knew it would, no, COULD be good.  I like him and knew he was a gentle soul and good for you, and it looks to me, from afar, like that was right.

I am sorry he left this life so young, but it seems like his life was full, and that he enjoyed a long, happy life with you and your two beautiful children.  How proud must you be that they are both Gators!

Atul and I both joined IBM in 1981 when we both worked in the Service Manager department.  I have many fond memories of working with Atul as well as our friendly rivalry over our respective state universities.  My condolences to the Modi family.

To the Modi family, I worked with Atul at IBM for many years. Please accept my condolences. Atul will be missed by many.

We've lost a friend, a co-worker, and a truly caring person.  I like so many others met Atul in the early 1980s as we began our careers with IBM and can honestly say that there will never be another soul like his.  It was a time of friendship that went far beyond the walls of our building but long into the nights and weekends for so many of us.  There are stories of laughter, of emotion, and, yes, the occasional palm reading.   My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his family and friends at this time; he will be missed by many.

I met Atul back in the early 80s when we all started working for IBM. I have fond memories of all of us going to out to lunch, a different place almost every time. We were also known to visit what was then Pennrods on Friday nights, where I think I also had a palm reading. I last saw Atul a few years ago when some of us were able to get together again in Tampa. He was such a nice man, always quick to laugh, and had a smile for everyone. My sincere condolences to his wife, daughters and all of his family. He will be greatly missed but I hope you can find some comfort in your happy memories.

Deepest sympathy to all of the Modi family members.  I know how much Atul will be missed.

There were only a few people around "our size" when I began working with Atul back in 1987.  I will miss his broad smile, his mirth, quick wit and hot peppers.

To the Modi family, please accept my condolences.  Your loved one will be missed by others like me.

I knew Atul for only a short period of time, but he was the first person I would say "Good Morning" to when arriving on the 4th floor on a daily basis.  He will be missed.  My symphathy goes out to his family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss, knowing how much you will miss Atul.  Although I haven't seen Atul for quite a few years (I left IBM for 'early retirement' just before the move to AT&T happened), I remember him as a kind man who brought a positive attitude with him to meetings and planning sessions.  He was always a welcome addition to the team.

I worked with Atul January of 1981 till now. In our early years we had a number of newly hired IBM'ers all young, eager and fresh out of school. We formed a regular monthly "go out to dinner gang" where we would explore Tampa which was new to us all.  We had some great times and all of us got to know each other pretty well. We worked together and we all supported each other. I remember Atul used to hang out with Tom Barca. I don't think Tom owned a suit and Atul was always impeccably dresed in his suit and vest. They were great friends but to see them together was quite the contrast. They seemed bent on making everyone laugh. And we did. Atul was always quick to laugh,  humble and easy to be with... 

I was the designated driver for his bachelor party and am probably the only one to remember any of it. Atul was a hoot. I reminded him of that occasion a couple of months ago and we both  had a good laugh. 

We all had so much fun in those early years.. We all stayed  in touch and  always talked when we saw each other. 

I will miss the man, we all will.

It has been several years now since I lived in Tampa, and I haven't had many opportunities to work direclty with Atul since that time.  Atul was always a very valued member of the billing team while we were with IBM and now with AT&T.  Whenever I would hear of problems, my first answer was call Atul... he can fix it.  I'm sure he was under a lot of pressure and stress over the years like many of us in our jobs, but it never showed with Atul.  He was always very calm, supportive and professional.  He will be greatly missed and remembered for a very long time.

I knew and worked with Atul for 25 years and he was always a pleasure to work with.  He will be missed by many.  I will keep you in my prayers.

I did not work on a daily basis with Atul but on the occassions that I had to speak with him he was always courteous and most helpful. He would deal with any request I asked promptly and with great professionalism. I am very sorry for your loss, he will be sadly missed.
