Bernard Lawrence Geniesse

Bernard Lawrence Geniesse, 75, of Jackson, Michigan, passed away on October 2, 2023, in Florida, after a long health battle. Throughout his many health issues, he always maintained a positive attitude and outlook. Bernard will be lovingly missed by many.

Bernard was born on May 27, 1948, to Bernard and Catherine (Borst) Geniesse in Menominee, Michigan. He was the oldest of 6 children and was raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He later moved to Jackson, Michigan where he met his wife Jane and was married in 1987. Bernard and Jane had one daughter, Catherine and were happily married for 36 years. Bernard retired from the State of Michigan in 2004 and was thought very highly of by his coworkers.

Bernard was an avid hunter, reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast and family man. He loved being at his best friend’s farm in Hanover, Michigan, where he spent a lot of his free time. He loved to build things and help his neighbors. At 6’7”, he was known by many as a “gentle giant” as he had a very caring and gentle presence.

Bernard was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Catherine, brother Francis, sister Susanne and longtime best friend, Jim Stovall. He is survived by his wife Jane, his daughter Catherine (Michael) Ortiz, siblings David (Rayette), Michael (Sondra), Robert (Katherine), brother-in-law Daniel Reynolds and many nieces and nephews.
