Bobby “Bob” Eugene Stubbs went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 3, just ten days before his 78th birthday. Bobby was born on November 13, 1943, in Bennettsville, SC. After his family moved to NC, he worked picking cotton as a young man and then at age 17, Bobby entered the US Air Force where he served, with pride, retiring as a Master Sargeant after 20 years of service to the USA. Four of those years he served in the war in Vietnam and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and 5 Air Force Commendation Medals/Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1967, he received the Bronze Star for his heroism in saving the life of a young soldier in the South Vietnamese army. Following his retirement from the military, Bobby worked as a schoolteacher, owned a vending machine business, aided his wife, Connie, in her antiques business and then started and grew a successful pool repair & supply business and store that continues today. Along the way, he bought and flew his own small airplane and enjoyed riding motorcycles among other adventures. Everything he did, he did with enthusiasm. In recent years, he connected with his Scottish roots – and became known for his large selection of kilts. During and after his time in the military, he was a staunch patriot and supporter of current and former members of the armed forces. Bob & Connie have made their home in Brandon for the last 51 years.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, James & Virgina Stubbs and great-granddaughter, Alaina.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Connie Lee Stubbs; children, Teri (Mark) Pate, Bobby Stubbs, Jr. and Matt Stubbs; grandchildren, Leah (Ryan) Borg, Christina Stubbs, Mark (Kristina) Pate, Jr., Brittani Stubbs, Josh Pate, Adam Stubbs, Kaitlyn Stubbs, Marlena Stubbs, Hannah Pate and Caleb Stubbs; nine greatgrandchildren; his brothers, James (Laurene) Stubbs, Bill (Barbara) Stubbs and Ronnie Stubbs and sisters, Brenda (Charles) Jenkins, Linda Glover and Connie (Carlos) Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews, and special “just like family” that Bobby loved and for whom he cared deeply.
Bobby’s remains will be cremated, and a memorial celebration of life will be held at a later date.
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” II Corinthians 5:8
