On December 5, 2021, the loving spirit of our Carolyn answered God’s call to return home. Her role and mission of love, devotion and service to family, and others in need, had been completed. Her love was a source of strength to her beloved family beginning with her husband of 57 years, Jack Kerrigan, and her cherished children Kelly Berry, and Shannon Kerrigan, and Kelly’s husband David Berry, their son David and daughter Ashleigh and Shannon’s son Hunter. Nothing was a greater source of pride to Carolyn then her husband, her children and their families, as their lives evolved. She loved them all deeply.
Carolyn was very proud to be known as a God loving person and a native Floridian, born and raised in Cottondale, Florida. Her zest for life and passion to be here to help others was apparent in every part of her life. Her decades of work at the University of South Florida as the Director of Student Advising for the College of Performing Arts enabled her to devote her skills and energy to counsel and guide her students through difficult times during their education journey. She excelled at it and her dedication to their educational well being was obvious to all who knew her.
Carolyn further devoted her love and dedication to others as a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. She relished her roles as a member of the United Methodist Women and enjoyed the time she spent with her friends of UMW in all efforts they were engaged in. She felt this was God’s work and she felt joy and happiness while doing it. Her beaming smile was always there when the work she and others were doing was successful and exceeded all expectations; so much good work had been done. Her focus for other people and work for others carried over into her many roles in the Brandon Service League. While Carolyn served in several offices and participated in many significant projects while a member of BSL, nothing was handled by her in a more focused way, then her daily efforts to get out sympathy cards, birthdays cards and other acknowledgements of caring that other BSL and related members needed at the time.
Carolyn was also a distinguished member of the Sirens of the Golden Sabre, a team of women dedicated to community service. They participated annually in the Gasparilla parade and supporting parades to raise funds for charity to help the less fortunate. She loved being a member of the Sirens and she was very proud of the work they did in support of the Brandon community.
We all loved Carolyn deeply and we will miss her all the remaining days of our lives. Her beaming smile, her exuberant joy of life, her enjoyment of developing friendships along the journey of life will always be something people will remember about Carolyn. Her life was full and she enjoyed it right up to the point it was time to say goodbye. She will be missed.
Thank you to all of her many friends for the love and support you provided to her during her life’s journey. She loved you, appreciated you and cherished your friendship. God bless you all.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.HillsboroMemorial.com for the Kerrigan family.
