Bud was born on April 2, 1940, to Howard & Emmaline Ortelt in Dundalk, Maryland. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force, and made a career of service for 23 years and was also a proud Vietnam Veteran.
Bud truly loved his service in the military, surpassed only by the family he cherished. While his children were young, he was actively involved in all their activities over the years including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Special Olympics and volunteering with his children’s high school marching band.
His military career ended in 1981, and then worked at Winn-Dixie Workman’s Compensation Division until he retired, although he never truly was fully retired. He became actively involved with several Local VVA’s and American Legion Posts. He enjoyed participating in Eagle Scout presentations locally, and through the American Legion, volunteered as a presenter for many local high school Vietnam History classes. He faithfully participated in the Brandon (Florida) Fourth of July Parade where he eventually recruited his grown children and grandchildren to assist in the tradition of handing out beads to parade goers.
Family and friends meant the world to him, family was not just those by blood or marriage, but by those that were dear to him, and there are so many. In his eyes, the more the merrier! Nothing brought him more joy than his always growing family.
Bud was predeceased by his father, Howard E. Ortelt, Sr., his mother Emmaline E. Ortelt, Grandmother, Jessie Evans, Father-in-law, Raymond Cooper and Mother-in-law Myrtice Cooper.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Donna R. Ortelt, his younger brother, Howard E. Ortelt, Jr. (Deb Cortis Ortelt), his Children: Charles E. “Eddy” Ortelt, Jr., Shelly R Servedio (Michael Servedio), Michael E. Ortelt, and Debra Setzer-Ortelt (Geno Baxter); his Grandchildren: Jessica Gibson, Richard Gibson (Jen Mikolajek), Thomas Ortelt, Hannah Servedio, Benjamin Snoddy (Michelle Snoddy), Katelyn Servedio, and Connor Ortelt; his Great Grandchildren: Karsyn Howell and Adeline Snoddy, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
