

Edythe Kathryn Graham was born to the Reverend Edward T. and Ethel Lee Evans Graham in Brooklyn, NY on Sept 7, 1931. After her early educational years, the family moved to South Florida when her father, working for the USO was transferred.
Edythe attended College Prep Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, NC and began her undergraduate course work at Smith College in North Hampton, MA. She later transferred to Spellman College in Atlanta, GA to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received her Master’s Degree from Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA and completed course work for her Doctorate in Education at the University of Miami.
Her marriage to Isaac Ruben Barfield produced three daughters, Charmaine, Karen and Felicia.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a long time member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Miami, FL.
Edythe started her professional career as a Social Worker for the State of Florida and later fulfilled her goal to become an educator and administrator with the Dade County Public School System. She was employed with the school system for over 30 years before retiring.
Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her daughters Charmaine Sutton (Lawson),
Karen Steiner, Felicia Perkins (Walter III); brother Alexander C. Graham; sister Glenda Harris; step sister Delores Collier; grandchildren, Lawson Sutton III (Kim), Lenore Sutton, Lance Sutton, Kathryn Wijnaldum (Olfedo), Jessica Jones, Lavell Clark, Walter Perkins IV and Corey Perkins; great grandchildren Blaine Sutton, Briana Sutton, Grant Hylton, Lawson Sutton IV, Tanrah Wijnaldum, Willem Wijnaldum, Vania Wijnaldum and Halaina Jones.
